Seminar: Degradation and Recycling of Inorganic Materials

The primary focus of the meeting is on challenges and problem-solving of industrial problems. During the day representatives from SDU Chemical engineering and the companies COWI A/S, Rockwool Group, Haldor Topsøe A/S and Stena Metal Group will address the innovations taking place at their sites and describe some of the challenges they face. Likewise, iNANO/Chemistry and Geoscience researchers will give an overview of their work in the field of “Degradation and Recycling of Inorganic Materials”. After the morning session, poster session and lunch, the afternoon will be fully dedicated to networking and brainstorming in focus groups on problems of relevance to the industry.

Discussion themes: The problems or themes for discussion are open for input from the participants. Your input should be sent beforehand (deadline 22 November), by mail to the organizer (yvonneeh@inano.au.dk).

    Especially for aerospace, automotive, railway or other civic industries, faultlessness in terms of reliability and safety of the engineering components is a must. With the introduction of new ways of fabricating components such as additive manufacturing or the development of new designs to reduce energy consumption, the complete understanding of these components, which are often operating under extreme conditions, not negotiable.

    What are the best ways to achieve this understanding? This seminar aims to give you the answer. We will showcase how synchrotron radiation and neutrons can, in a non-destructive manner, give insights into the behavior of materials and engineering components during fabrication or operation. Several techniques will be explained and linked to current questions.
