    You, your postdocs and PhD-students are cordially invited to contribute to the 24-hour workshop “NNSP Capacity Building Networks - Engineering, processes and real-space imaging” within the NordForsk neutron program. A major part of the programme of the workshop will be based on the contributed abstracts and emphasize on discussion and networking, so it will be an excellent opportunity for you to present and discuss your activities within this topic, Engineering, processes and real-space imaging.

    Neutron scattering is excellent in performing non-destructive in-depth imaging of materials and components. Diffraction provides an excellent tool for determining grains, texture, composition and microscopic strain. Scattering is used to investigate complex flow, phase separations, sintering, welding and other engineering processes. During a 24-hour workshop from lunch to lunch we will bring together academia and industry from the Nordic and Baltic countries working within the field connecting research communities across the region to build critical mass. Focus will be on topics related to the two engineering and imaging instruments at ESS; ODIN ( and BEER (

    Topics for discussion

    • Neutron imaging and diffraction for in-situ/in-operando analysis of engineering materials and processes
      (complex flow, phase separations, sintering, welding etc.)
    • Neutron imaging and diffraction for in-situ/in-operando analysis of energy materials and components (batteries, fuel/electrolysis cells, solar cells etc.)
    • Imaging and diffraction for determination of microstructure, grains, texture, composition, pores
    • Imaging and diffraction for determination of strain
    • Imaging of magnetic fields
    • Sample environments for in-situ/in-operando neutron imaging within engineering
