Summer school: DANSCATT & MAX4ESSFUN Summer school: Materials Research with Synchrotron, Neutron and XFEL Sources

The summer school will educate young researchers in techniques and methodologies used at synchrotron, neutron, and XFEL sources. The school covers a wide range of scattering and absorption methods including diffraction, total scattering, imaging, and spectroscopy. Further, several beamlines/instruments are presented as part of the general perspective.


  • Participants: Students (bachelor through PhD), postdoctoral researchers and material scientists at similar level.
  • Location: Aarhus University Conference Center in Sønderborg.

    You get the chance to get teaching and hands on experience with the complete workflow of high-resolution tomography analysis.

    Over 5 days, you will get introduced to data acquisition, 3D reconstruction, segmentation and meshing and finally, 3D modelling of data to extract physical parameters describing flow or mechanical properties. Teaching and exercises will take place in close interaction with top experts in the field. The whole workflow will be implemented in a Jupyter notebook python programming environment that will enable you to learn and tweak the analysis methods in detail.

    The Nordic Neutron Science Programme (NNSP) and the Swedish Neutron Education for Science & Society (SwedNess) programme are proud to present the second Graduate School on Neutron Scattering. The school will take place in the university town of Tartu, Estonia, September 8-21st, 2018.

    The school covers an introduction to neutron scattering, with the topics:
